Oregon is experiencing a legal desert, meaning there are not enough attorneys in the State of Oregon to represent indigent defendants. As a result, many attorneys across the State have been solicited for help including our office. We contracted with the Oregon Public Defense Commission (OPDC) to provide legal representation to indigent criminal defendants.
What that means for you:
Our office is overwhelmed with this crisis, assisting defendants and the Court as we can. Both attorneys in our office have a full criminal caseload currently and are not taking new civil clients until the crisis has been alleviated.
OPDC is improving and working constantly to find a solution for the crisis and we know that, in time, the crisis will be over and we can begin taking new civil clients.
In the meantime, both attorneys are taking Continuing Legal Education (CLE) classes to improve their knowledge of the law and better assist clients once they are able to diminish their criminal case loads.
We thank you for your patience and understanding and look forward to working with old and new clients again soon.
