Our current office hours are Monday - Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. We are closed for lunch from 12:00 pm -1:00pm everyday.
Please call before you stop by our office. Though we love visitors, sometimes the ocean is calling and we take a break by dipping our toes in the bay.
Our address is:
170 South 2nd Street, Suite 202
Coos Bay, Oregon 97420
We are currently located in The HighRoad Building which was previously known as the old Security Bank Building. You can find us across the street from Rife's Furniture and next door to the Chandler Building.
The law is complicated. Not just because it's written in a way that makes it hard to follow but also because the law uses a LOT of latin. Attorneys are trained to read statutes, cases, etc. and break those down into what can and can't be done. Attorneys also know the system and how to navigate it.
If there is a problem or issue that you are having, then I want you to have a story written out with a timeline. Please bring your ID, any existing legal documents or other materials that might help.
If you are coming to me regarding a contract or business issue, please bring your ID and any documents or other materials that you believe might help.
If you forget something or I find out I need more information after our consultation, please do no worry. We will cross that bridge when we get there.
It depends. (I know this is the most annoying phrase an attorney can use. but unfortunately it's true)
If you qualify for the modest means program through the State of Oregon, then our fee is a sort of sliding scale. "Lawyers who are willing to accept Modest Means clients have agreed to charge no more than $60, $80, or $100 per hour..." Read more at: https://www.osbar.org/_docs/public/diy/modestmeansapp.pdf
If you do not intend to use the Modest Means Program, my rate is $350 an hour.
If you cannot afford my normal rate and you do not qualify for the Modest Means Program, please seek out Legal Aid:

Place your card on file to pay

Pay when you receive your invoice through a QR code
if you do not wish to put a card on file, when you receive your invoice there will be a QR code that you can scan and it will direct you to a link to pay with your card.
Pay with Check or Cash in person or via mail
If you would rather skip the 3% fee charge for using a card, we also accept cash or check. We are happy to pick up any payment forms id need be. You can also stop by our office to drop it off or mail it to:

"The program is intended to help those who earn too much to qualify for legal aid, but who cannot afford traditional legal fees. Modest Means lawyers have agreed to charge reduced rates for legal work provided to clients referred to them through the program. There is no grant, fund or subsidy that makes up the difference between the lawyers’ regular rates and the Modest Means Program rates. The lawyers [lower their] rates because they believe in the mission of this program and want to help."

"Modest Means lawyers only handle certain kinds of family law, crim- inal defense, landlord/tenant and foreclosure matters. If the specific area of law with which you need help is not listed on the application, then it is not part of the program."
Read more at: https://www.osbar.org/_docs/public/diy/modestmeansapp.pdf
"Before you can be referred to a Modest Means lawyer you must apply and be pre-qualified. To apply, you must complete the application form and return it to us by fax, mail, or email (legalhelp@oregonstatebar.org--PDFs ONLY). You can call the number listed above for the application form or download it from the bar’s website at www.oregonstatebar.org."
The Oregon State Bar has an application online:
"Clients for the MMP qualify if their income does not exceed 200% of the federal poverty guidelines, which translates to approximately $1,342 monthly for a single person or $2,275 for a family of four. The income caps are adjusted annually based on adjustments to the Federal Poverty Guidelines. Restrictions on client assets also apply.
Qualified clients are referred to the MMP attorney who most closely matches the subject matter of the problem within the geographic area of the client. It is up to the attorney and client to decide whether to continue the attorney/client relationship beyond the first office visit."

A retainer for a lawyer is a fee paid upfront by the client to secure the services of an attorney. This reserves my time and expertise as a lawyer, making me accessible to you for an agreed-upon time. The amount can vary and may be a flat fee or an hourly rate.
I mostly function on an hourly rate and that rate is listen above.
You want to know what to expect. I get that but the problem is that no legal process is “typical”. Every single case is different but it is my job to explain everything to you before we do it.
Please see my Practice Areas Page for more.
I have been a practicing attorney for over four years with a license in Oregon and Washington. I started my career as a jack of all trades. I handled employment matters, business matters, property issues, protection orders, family law issues, and criminal matters. I became a Tribal Prosecutor in Washington then moved to Oregon and worked as a Deputy District Attorney with the Coos Count District Attorney's Office. I also have extensive experience with contracts and revising statutes.
Check out my About Me Page for more.
It depends! (there's that annoying phrase again!) I cannot answer this until our consultation is complete and even then it depends.
I hate to leave you on the edge of your seat but if you hire me we will figure it out.
It's my job! I can get in trouble with the Oregon State Bar if I don't. (And I like rules, so I tend to follow them to a "T".) But that's not the answer you're looking for. What you're really asking- Do you trust me to do my job to the best of my abilities?
I can't answer that for you. What I can say, is I know what it's like to be a client and be frustrated when your attorney doesn't call you back, doesn't email you back, doesn't send any letters, and just doesn't check in with you for months at a time. But I am not that attorney. I work for my clients not against my clients. Whether that is enough for you to trust me, only you can say.
It depends. (last time, I promise!) I may be able to answer all of your questions and have a solution before our 30 minutes are up. I most likely won't though. Unfortunately, I don't know everything and I am not going to pretend I do. What I can guarantee is I will work as hard as I can to figure out how I can help you. If I find out I cannot help you, I will try to guide you to someone who can.
